MICHAEL’S LAST DANCE – (Transcript, final task)

MICHAEL’S LAST DANCE

NARRATOR: The mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah, framed the setting as Michael Jordan’s stepped on the floor in the Bulls uniform for the last time, in game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, striving once again to reach basketball’s mountain top.

NEIL FUNK (Radio Broadcaster): In Michael’s mind, he knew when that series began it was gonna be his final dance as an NBA player.

NARRATOR: The Jazz respected Jordan, and they had earned his respect by taking two games in the Finals. In the early going of game 6, an awkward play improved Utah’s chances to even the series.

COMMENTATOR 1: Bob, I think Scottie Pippen tore his back out on that dunk shot.

COMMENTATOR 2: There’s an obvious truth, Pippen’s back is bothering.

NARRATOR: Pippen walked gingerly to the locker room. The Jazz took advantage and the early lead.

COMMENTATOR: I’ve got Karl Malone, fake right, trying to go left, can not, goes back (to) the right side, strong move, leap Delane, put it up… good! Count it, he’s fouled. “The Mailman delivers”.

COMMENTATOR 2: They roar their approval at the Delta Center.

NARRATOR: Michael Jordan found himself in from familiar territory, with a challenge before him.

COMMENTATOR: Michael Jordan is gonna have to carry the load.

NARRATOR: He was at the end of his career, but at the top of his game.

COMMENTATOR 1: They go to Jordan, low left, here we go, following, base left, shot, good!

Again on the angle left to Jordan, Michael, one bounce, fire away, blow another one, a man possessed.

COMMENTATOR 2: Michael feels right now he can make every shot he takes.

NARRATOR: Jazz’ coach Jerry Sloan summoned his reserves, but it was Jordan who found an endless supplier strength.

COMMENTATOR: Michael Jordan sticks his third three-pointer of the half.

NARRATOR: Veterans John Stockton and Karl Malone talked it over, and then demonstrated their uncanny knack from unspoken communication on the court.

COMMENTATOR 1: Strong, strong Karl Malone!

COMMENTATOR 2: Karl Malone carrying alone once again for the Utah Jazz.

NARRATOR: The second half began with an exchange of smiles by a couple of superstars, who then exchanged blows on the floor, as the game’s momentum shifted with nearly every shot.

COMMENTATOR: Stockton out to Karl, twisted, other hands good! What a shot by Karl Malone! 29 by Karl Malone.

Michael Jordan, down low right, alley oop back court, Jordan there. Jordan, 33 points.

COMMENTATOR 2: Left side for Chicago, Jordan with an out, he’s got it.

COMMENTATOR 1: Michael’s in the zone.

NARRATOR: In his last NBA Finals Michael Jordan was focused on winning his sixth championship with the Bulls, but the hunger also burned deep within the Jazz, who were determined to win their first NBA title.

COMMENTATOR: Now back to the Mailman, Karl base left, well footer. The Mailman delivers.

NARRATOR: In the final minute, the Malone-Stockton connection struck again.

COMMENTATOR: Malone, picks it up, cross for pass to Stockton with a three on the way… good!!
COMMENTATOR 2: John Stockton with a three pointer, and Utah takes the lead.

NARRATOR: He had already accomplished so much in his career and this was only game 6 after all, before a hustle crowd.

Would Michael Jordan save his strength for a seventh game at home? The answer, as history will record, was “no”.

COMMENTATOR: Up front to the mayhem, Michael Jordan, Jordan up top fake left, go right, is there, play it up, scored easily, wow!

COMMENTATOR 2: Stockton inside to Karl Malone they’re dominating, Jordan knocks it away from, Jordan’s got it! The Bulls can win it right here. The Bulls can win it! Unbelievable!

COMMENTATOR 3: Sixteen seconds left, Bulls down one. Michael against Russell, twelve seconds, eleven, ten, Jordan, Jordan at right. Hangs, fires… SCORES! He scores! The Bulls lead 87-86 with 5.2 times left. And now they’re one step away. Oh my goodness!

COMMENTATOR 2: Russell comes in to Stockton, Stockton, four seconds, Stockton at three up front. Remains, go! Bulls take the way! Chicago is World Champion, once more! The Chicago Bulls have won their sixth NBA Championship in the last eight years!

SKIP BAYLESS (Chicago Tribune): The more time that passes the more I look back at that last second shot at Utah in game 6 that ended that series, it’s just total fairy tale, it’s just happy in that way. Utah last second hold the pose.

I just couldn’t make it up. If I did it for Hollywood they would just laugh at it because it’s just too neat, too perfect the way it ended.

PHIL JACKSON: Oh my God, that was beautiful! What a finish!

DAVID STERN: To the Chicago Bulls, the 1998 NBA Champions, and a team for the ages, congratulations!

Exercise 2 of November 25th

The image is the cover of George Lucas’s movie, “Star Wars Episode II”; in the picture I can see some different elements: person, fantasy soldiers and an other short, green things.
Some elements are biggest than other, such as three people and not a soldiers; it suggest the importance of them (in fact, in the history they are the protagonists).

The black underground remember the space where are show many scenes of this fantasy movie.
The light behind the biggest person (in the movie called Anakin, Padme and Obi One, the protagonists) suggest that they are positive characters.
The light coat only a little part of the underground and it suggest a contrast with dark  (space, mystery but also devil);
In this situation the light (hope) contrast the black (devil).
The biggest person in the image, a young man has got a blame that remember a torch that suggest fantastic, the genre of the movie and weapon remember the fight (Star Wars).

Finally I can suppose that in this movie there is a war between positive and negative armies and only a little hope could save the situation.

What Transmedia means

The concept of “Transmedia” refers to a strategy that many companies use to transfer the success of a product shared using a particular media platform, to another product with different characteristics/properties. There are many examples of Transmedia process. For instance a movie which have a lot of success, receive positive reviews and is always mentioned by people all around the world, is likely to be taken as a base to create a videogame inspired by it. Also, a movie can be inspired by a book.

This usage of success given by a media product reminds the process of merchandising, that often involves kids and their love for movies and toys representing the characters of that movie.

Transmedia and Transmedia storytelling

“The power of the Words”
For me this is a Transmedia
Words are able to tell some different histories.
At the moment  are published many ads, news etc. and people are in a visual world (all informations are perceived with eyes).
People rimember informations only if they are told as history, interesting and rich of signs (denotation and connotation) so the power of every single word is very important for the compriation.
Actually transmedia is the main instrument of development and distribution of histories.
